Obituary For Shirley Ann Soucy

Shirley A. Soucy, 95 years, and lifelong resident of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2023 from a brief illness at Care One Essex Park in Beverly.

Mrs. Soucy was born on July 21, 1927 and was the daughter of Grace (Boylan) and Everett Warren. She grew up on Bartholomew Street, South Peabody with her sister, Virginia. She was the devoted wife of Reynold ‘Rey’ Soucy with whom she shared 55 years of marriage raising four children.

Shirley learned to play violin as a young girl and would write letters to her pen pal in London, England. She loved to swim and one day at Brown’s Pond, South Peabody, she saved a person’s life from drowning. She enjoyed decorating her home, tending to her tulip garden, walking, dancing, shopping, eating at restaurants and the 4th of July fireworks. She loved listening to music and completing word search puzzles.

Shirley was an avid Red Sox fan and cheered her Team, especially the World Series. She loved the New England Patriots and the Super Bowl. Shirley and Rey spent time with Virginia and Bill Cleary and the Soucy Clan: Madeleine and Roland, Isabelle and Armand, Helen and Roger, Blanche and Phil, Peggy and Lucien, Rita and James Wrest, Lucy and Frank Bowman. They enjoyed their summer home at Sargent Lake Belmont, New Hampshire. They took part in cookouts, horseshoes, swimming, water skiing and boating. Shirley visited the White Mountains, and travelled to Hawaii, Naples, Florida, London and Paris.

Shirley, most of all, was a loving Mother, Nana and Great Nana who took part in her family’s many activities. She particularly loved gatherings with everyone for birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Shirley Soucy made friends wherever she went, with an Irish twinkle in her eye, and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gail Crissinger of Quincy, Virginia Soucy of Beverly, and one son Reynold Soucy and his wife Ann (Zawerucka) Soucy of Rockland. Grandchildren Amy and Dave Rochon, Kathleen and Andrew Bell, Matthew and Kimberly (Gillis) Crissinger, David and Christine Crissinger, Erin Shalvey and Derek Forti, Eugene Shalvey and Caitlin (Lezell) Shalvey, Christine Soucy, Kimberly Soucy and fiancé Daniel Handley, Donnie Soucy and David Soucy. Great Grandchildren Corrine, Norah, Rosie, Maggie, Lily, Aiden, David Cousins, many nieces and nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her son Glenn Soucy, Reynold A. Soucy, Virginia (Warren) Cleary, and Grace (Boylan) and Everett Warren.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
