Obituary For Shirley M (Couillard)(Tardiff) Luz

Shirley’s life was well lived and she was well loved. Shirley M (Couillard) (Tardiff) Luz, 86, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died unexpectedly on Saturday morning surrounded by her loving family. She shared 33 years of marriage with her beloved husband, the late Raymond Luz. Her loving soul, bright blue eyes and beautiful smile will remain in the hearts of her family forever.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Yvonne (Pelletier) Couillard of Salem, MA. She was raised and educated in Lynn attending St. Jeans Schools. While there, she was a drum majorette for the St. Jeans Drum & Bugle Corp. She lived in Peabody for the past 38 years, previously residing in Salem where she raised her three children. She was a devoted parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church and more recently of St. Ann’s Church in Peabody.

Shirley was a nurses aide at Salem Hospital for many years before she retired. She enjoyed bowling in many leagues at Sunnyside Bowl in Danvers and was an avid sports fan of both the Red Sox and Patriots. Her favorite endeavor though was spending time with her family. In her retirement she and her late husband Raymond cared for their grandchildren often, especially during the summer where they would spend countless hours by the pool. She enjoyed sharing in all their activities and never missed a game, recital, musical, prom or graduation for her beloved grandchildren. She was such a constant presence in their life accomplishments that she was known simply as “Memere” to their many friends.

Shirley is survived by her son Tom Tardiff of Peabody, her two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Thomas Southern of Peabody, and Karen and John O’Rourke of Peabody; with whom she resided, her 9 cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Joseph, and Ricky Tardiff, Stacie, Sydney, and Thomas Southern, and Jake, Keri, and Katie O’Rourke, and her great grandson, Cameron Mailo. She is also survived by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Lorraine Couillard of Lynn, and Ronnie and Carol Couillard of FL, her sister, Arlene Alexander of Amesbury, her sister-in-law Audrey Couillard of Peabody, several nieces and nephews and her best friend Andrea David of Amesbury. She was predeceased by her brothers, Richard and Roger Couillard, and her sisters, Lorraine Hoxie, Anita Anderson, and Rita Couillard.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St, Peabody. Shirley was one of the nicest, kindest, and caring woman I know. She loved her family more than life itself and was ever so proud of each and everyone one of her children and grandchildren. She was fun to be around, always pleasant and always spoke highly of everyone she me. She never forgot to ask how everyone else was doing and always offered a smile that would light up the room. There will forever be a huge VOID in all the lives that she touched because to know Shirley was to love her.... Rest easy until we meet again.......Cheech
