Obituary For Thomas M. Zapantis

Beverly - Thomas “Tom or Tommy” Michael Zapantis, 39, of Hyde Park, died unexpectedly Sunday, October 24, 2021. He was born June 13, 1982 in Beverly Massachusetts, the son of the late Michael Zapantis and Diane (Hamel) Zapantis. Tommy attended primary school and high school in Beverly, where he graduated from Beverly High school. While in school, he played hockey and had a close-knit group of friends that remained close into adulthood. He also attended North Shore Community College for a few semesters.Growing up, Tommy enjoyed fishing along the shores of Beverly with his younger brother Danny and their friends. He loved trips to Vermont to go snowboarding, a love he would later pass on to his daughter when she was old enough to start riding. He was also passionate about music, spending many summers touring with jam bands and attending music festivals. Tom and his family took many vacations to Jamaica where they made many fond memories, and he developed a love for reggae music. He liked telling the story of one such vacation in which his father went swimming and ended up with an octopus suctioned to his arm, much to his and his brother’s amusement. Not long after graduating from school, Tommy decided to move to Burlington, Vermont where he lived for a short time before moving Johnson, VT. He felt at home there, with the mountains nearby for snowboarding and a diverse music scene. Tom brought his love of reggae to Vermont, hosting many reggae nights at venues around the county. After a few years in Vermont, Tom met and married Courtney Jewer, and they had a daughter, Avangalyn, together. Although they were not married long, Ava was the most important thing in Tom’s life. From the day that she was born, he would refer to her as his little munchkin and princess. She was his pride and joy, and he made sure that anyone he met knew it.Tommy loved to be surrounded by friends and could make friends with anyone. He always wanted people to feel included and would go out of his way to talk to anyone he thought seemed like they felt out of place. He had a way of making everyone feel heard and was understanding of whatever might be going on in their lives. ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
