Ulisses Freitas Sousa (deSousa), eighty-eight, of Salem, died peacefully at his residence early Tuesday morning, December 21, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of 69 years to Marcionilia (Sampaio) Sousa.

He was born in St. Jorge, Azores, Portugal on October 16, 1933, the son of the late Oscar and Hermelinda (Gonsalves) Sousa and was raised in St. Jorge before moving to Salem MA.

He had been a self-employed tailor for over 35 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed being home with his family and watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as they grew to maturity.

He is survived by his wife, Marcionilia of Salem, a son and daughter-in-law, Ladislau and Filomena Sousa of Salem, a daughter and son-in-law, Liceria M. and Joao Toledo of Londonderry, NH, his 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew S. and Cynthia Toledo, Danielle and Sean Morse, Andreia T. and Corey Jakway, and Tyler Sousa; his 6 great grandchildren, Angelina, Devin, Travis and Leonidas Toledo and, Jack and Katherine Morse and many nieces and nephews.

There are no funeral services planned. Arrangements are by the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home of Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice in his memory.
