Obituary For Virginia L. Amore

Virginia L. (Fisher) Amore, 94, formerly of Turtle Creek, died Sunday, December 4th, 2022, at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Virginia was the beloved wife of the late Joseph D. Amore Sr. with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Joseph died in 2009.

Born in Washington, D.C. on April 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Linwood and Lillian (Carter) Fisher. At birth Virginia was very tiny, so much so doctors told her mother it was unlikely she would survive. Although tiny, Virginia was stubborn and determined; living well past those first few days nestled in a drawer next to the oven to stay warm, Virginia was a hot ticket driving until 92 and remaining smart as a whip until her final days.

Virginia has been a resident of Beverly since 1946 when she moved here to join the love of her life, Joseph and his entire Italian family. Virginia and Joe met at a dance in D.C. while he was in the Army stationed at Fort Belvoir. They both loved to dance; boy were they incredible dancers. They married on May 28, 1946 in Alexandria, taking a honeymoon to Beverly where her husband lived. She loved Beverly so much she never returned to her hometown.

Surrounded by her husbands’ family and her mother-in-law who was born and brought up in Sicily, she learnt how to make the most delicious Italian meals from scratch. Her home at Bisson Street was fragrant with sausage, pepper and onions or meatballs and raviolis as she always had family style meals ready for her children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends at her social clubs. She was a busy woman and a woman ahead of her time, she founded and ran a successful home-based ironing business for local professionals while taking care of her three small children. She was a member of the Vittori-Rocci Post, Beverly/Salem Elks #1309 and the American Legion Auxiliary #331.

Virginia loved to knit and made beautiful sweaters and blankets for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid book reader who stayed up until 2AM to read that next chapter of her Danielle Steele romance novel, reading all the way up till her passing. Virginia loved to shop, always wearing the most beautiful and colorful clothing and jewelry; her grandchildren found humor in her passion for the home shopping network. She was a fun-loving mom and grandmother, known dearly as Nana, and gave that love unconditionally to all – even her precious pups and cat, Fluffy. Her adventures took her to New Hampshire, Martha’s Vineyard, Florida, Colorado, Aruba, Hawaii, and across the pond to Ireland and her husbands’ home in Italy.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Ray Allen of Beverly, son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Bonnie Amore of Middleton, daughter-in-law Judith Amore; former daughter-in-law Susan Burch; six grandchildren, Alfio Amore, Jr. and his fiancé, Kara Ring, Matthew Amore and his husband, Justin Holmes, Kelly McLay and her husband, John, Phil Amore and his wife, Kellye, Lisa Moschella and her husband, Michael, and Raymond Allen III; great-grandchildren, Kerri and Skye Amore, Nicholas and Brianna Shairs-Amore, Elizabeth Amore Remon, Michael, Jr., Thomas, and Joseph Moschella; Scarlett, Bodhi and Presley McLay; Frankie and Andrew Amore, Jenna and Jamie Ring, Jaelyn Harrington and Michael Girard; and one great-great granddaughter, Delilah Shairs-Amore; many nieces, nephews whom she adored and longtime dear friend, Joanne Peters. She was also predeceased by her son, Alfio G. Amore Sr., daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Slavin) Amore and two granddaughters, Tina and Kerri Amore, sister-in-law. Ida Menesale and her husband Dominic and two brothers-in-law, Charlie Amore and his wife Catherine and Doc Amore and his wife, Rita. She lived to see four generations of friends and family and there was nothing she loved more than having so many of them living here in Beverly with her.

From the moment she was born, Virginia was determined to live and live she did. For her 94 years, you never saw her without a warm welcoming hug, a smile on her face, a beat in her step, and a sparkly broach.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 10 AM. Visiting hours are Monday at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street., Peabody from 4-7 PM. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beverly.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the Harborlight Community Partners, PO Box 507, Beverly, MA 01915. Donations can also be made using the link on the left.
