Obituary For William E. "Bill" Crowell

Peabody - Every morning, William Earl Crowell would open the paper and thumb to the obituary page searching for his name. When he didn’t find it, he’d turn to his wife and say, “Not today, Deb.” His loving bride of 50 years and his daughters are placing this obituary with sorrow and honor for the amazing 71 years he lived.

Bill was very active, participating in multiple road races and triathlons, and twice running in the Boston Marathon. He was known by many as Coach Bill, as he enjoyed coaching youth basketball and soccer for many years. In addition, he volunteered for eight years as the Northeast Competition Coordinator of Massachusetts Special Olympics.

Having grown up in Somerville, Bill became a longtime resident of Peabody. The son of the late Earl and Mary Crowell, Bill was the husband of Debra and father of Courtney Crowell of Arden, NC, and Lynne Crowell and her partner, Carl Serra of Peabody. He graduated with a master’s degree in engineering from Northeastern University and worked as a quality control engineer until his retirement.

Bill, you finally made it. Always loving, forever loved.

ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s honor to the Torigian Family YMCA, 2 Centennial Drive, Suite 4a, Peabody, MA 01960.

Condolences

I recently heard of Bill's passing and wanted to offer my condolences. I worked with Bill at Baird when it was in Bedford. I have very found memories of playing computer chess and eating Oreo cookies with him during lunchtime. Together we tried to beat the computer. We didn't always win but we had fun trying. He was a good person, easy to work with, and by the way he talked about his family, a good family man.

Dearest Debra, Lynne and Courtney - I was stunned and then saddened to read about Bill. He was a great man! There are not enough words to express our condolences to you. Bill was the first mentor to Knox and Erica. Always encouraging them to be themselves! We borrowed him , from time to time, to attend basketball games, graduations and of course at the YMCA. Thank you. Bill loved you all endlessly. Proud of every single one of you. We were witnesses of the strong influence Bill had on so many young people. Please accept our condolences and know that you are all on our prayers 🙏🏼🙏🏼🕯️🏀💔 Peter Lendall

My sincere sympathy for your loss. I had the pleasure of swimming at the Y with Bill for many years. He'd always say, are you going to stand there and "jibber jabber" or are you going to swim today? We'd laugh and get a move on with the workout. A wonderful man. My heart goes out to the family. My thoughts , & prayers to the Crowell Family. One of the nicest people I met swimming @ the Peabody Y. Bill would always share a smile , & was wiling to share a lane if you were waiting to swim. I would ask Bill frequently how to improve my swimming technique , & he would always try to encourage me with great advice. He will be missed by anyone whom ever swam @ the Peabody Y pool. May bill rest in peace. Dave Patnaude fellow Y member , & swim friend.

So sorry to learn of Bill's sudden passing. He was one of the first members that I met at Planet Fitness several years ago.
