Obituary For Yolanda R. Pace
Peabody - Yolanda R. (Di Benedetto) Pace, passed away on August 15, 2021 at age 96. She was the daughter of Salvatore and Maria (Tenaglia) Di Benedetto. Yolanda’s mother, Maria, had a childhood friend in Orsogna, Italy named Rachela D’Angelo with whom she lost contact after immigrating to the United States…the relevance of this will soon be apparent.
Yolanda was predeceased by her brothers Filippo, Vincenzo (“Jimmy”), Antonio and Louis, her daughter-in-law Donna, and her canine “daughter” Caprice.
Yolanda grew up in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, NY. At a friend’s wedding, she met the man who would become her husband, Albert J. (“Dick”) Pace. Dick hailed from East Boston. Prior to getting married, Dick brought his parents to Astoria to meet Yolanda’s parents. When Dick knocked at the door, the parents expected to be meeting strangers. But it turned out that Dick’s mother was Rachela, the childhood girlfriend of Yolanda’s mother in Orsogna. The women were overjoyed to see each other again and knew that their children’s marriage would be a good one. Dick and Yo recently celebrated their 72nd anniversary. Their marriage was long and loving.
Yo leaves behind her beloved husband Dick, her sons, Richard and his wife, Kitty, Ronald and Robert and his wife, Deb, and her grandsons, Keith and Matthew. She is also survived by three generations of cherished nieces and nephews.
Yolanda had a deep love for her family and friends. She was their historian, able to detail names, relationships, important dates and events from memory. She enjoyed being a mother to her sons and treated her daughters-in-law as if they were her own. She was a painstaking and skilled cook, whether she was making weekly gravy or treats like escarole soup, zucchini fritters, Italian waffles (pizzelles) or anise cookies. She enjoyed bowling and going for walks with her girlfriends. Her favorite novels where those in which women helped each other to overcome difficulty.
She and Dick spent many winters in Royal Palm Beach, Florida with some of their lifelong friends. They also enjoyed cruise adventures and travel to Italy, Hawaii and Alaska.
Yolanda was blessed with a full life and appreciated everyone who helped make it so.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody, Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be private. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the nursing association of your choice. The family gives their deep gratitude to the nurses, doctors and staff on floor 6 West at Lahey Hospital for so lovingly caring for Yolanda during her passage.

I am so very sorry to hear of Yolanda's passing. I have many fond memories of spending time with her and Dick at my cousin's (Donna and Rick Pace's) house in North Reading during the holidays and at birthday parties. My sincere condolences to Rick, Kitty and the entire Pace family.
RIP Mom - I will miss our long talks and the wonderful holiday and family gatherings. You were a wonderful mother in law. I feel so blessed to have had you in my life. - Love Debbie
I always considered my Aunt Yo as a second mother. Especially so after my parents passed. She was always caring, ready to listen, and impart wisdom. I will never forget my "vacations" on Frankfurt St. in East Boston, and the countless times we visited. Especially all our holidays together....she will be forever missed.
Sleep peacefully Auntie. Thank you so much for the memories you left behind. Love Barbara Ann
