Obituary of William C. Smith

William C “Billy” Smith, 75, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died Tuesday evening peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his family and friends following his battle with cancer.  He was the devoted husband of Kathy Carlson-Smith.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late William and Barbara (Conant) Smith.  He was raised and educated in Salem and has spent the last 30 years living in Peabody.

Billy served during the Vietnam War for the United States Army for three years before his honorable discharge in 1965.

Billy worked in the construction business for many years. “Add a Room” was one the companies he worked for over those years.  After an injury, Billy started working for Evans Flowers in 1984 and continued working there for 35 years until his recent illness. 

Over the years Billy was involved and coached in numerous softball, dart, bowling and golf leagues and was a member of the A.O.H., Moose Lodge and St. Michaels society as well.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his two sons, Lenard and his wife Helena Smith of Amesbury, and Joseph Smith of Clearwater, FL, his brothers and sisters, Lawrence and his wife Donna Smith of Beverly, Christopher Smith of Raymond, NH, Darlene Nunez of Beverly, Charlene Cruz of Peabody, David Smith and Ellie Gould of Peabody, Michael Smith and husband Samuel Israel of Murphys, CA, Kevin Smith of Halifax, MA, and Richard Smith of Beverly. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Raquel, Ashley, and Meghan and 2 half-sisters, Windy and Jennifer Smith.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Funeral Service will be on Monday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.  Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St, Danvers, MA 01923 or the MGH/North Shore Cancer Center, 102 Endicott St, Danvers, MA 01923.
