Leo Francis Callahan, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the age of 97.
Leo was born in Winchester, MA on September 9, 1922 to the late Frank Callahan and late Sarah (Swymer) Callahan and brother to the late Genevieve Roussell. He was a graduate of Melrose, MA High School, and went on to serve in the Army during World War II. After the war he was married on July 4, 1946 to his wife, Elinor (Sheehan) Callahan and together they had three children and shared 55 years of marriage before she passed away on February 18, 2002. Leo worked his entire career at New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1984 when he was able to spend more time doing what he so enjoyed: spending time with his family. Leo is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Mary Callahan, daughter and son-in-law Claire and Joe Berardino, and daughter, Judi Davis, all of Peabody, MA. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and his six great-grandchildren; Stacey, TJ, and Sara Fabrizio; Kevin, Kristie, Elizabeth, and Finnegan Callahan; Brian, Sara, and Caroline Callahan; Tamara and Mark Nohelty; Jonathan, Lindsay, and Christopher Berardino, Emily and Lillia Fisher; and Rosie Berardino. Leo is also survived by his sister-in-law Ada Sheehan. Leo most enjoyed spending time with his family, visits from his dear friends Gavin and Liam McQuarrie, and also listening to books on tape. The family wishes to thank Leo’s neighbors for their support.
