54 years ago, Arthur Mapes did me the kindness of making my wedding cake. My husband to be was being transferred to Brazil and we had to put our wedding together rather quickly. I was working at Bailey's of Boston at the time. He knew that an Englishwoman would want a dark fruitcake, infused with brandy and covered first with almond paste and then royal icing. An acquaintance of his then decorated the cake with beautifully crafted yellow roses! I have never forgotten. Thank you, Arthur. Elizabeth Schmellick
