Obituary For Donald William Berube, Sr.

Donald William Berube, 80, of Peabody, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann (Kelly) Berube with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

He was born in Salem, MA on February 1, 1943 and was the cherished son of the late Leon and Irene (Jodoin) Berube.

Don was raised in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. He then became an employee of EG&G (now Excelitas) in Salem in 1961. During his early tenure at EG&G, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967, stationed at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, where he was part of search and rescue missions via helicopters. After his 4 years of military service, Don returned to EG&G where he remained until his retirement in 2018, fulfilling 57 years of employment. Don took pride in his work as a manufacturing supervisor and was loved by all of his fellow employees.

In his younger years Don enjoyed his weekends by dancing the night away with his wife Mary Ann and many friends. Plenty of weekend getaways, summer camping trips with his sons and grandchildren; and many nights out on the town with Mary Ann, with Foxwoods being their favorite destination. Don loved his Boston sports teams, with the Patriots being at the top of the list; he also loved to play golf and candlepin bowl. But his greatest passion was his love for his grandchildren, of which he spent as much time as he could with. Those were the moments he cherished most of all.

In addition to his wife, Mary Ann, Donald is survived by his 2 sons, Donald Berube Jr. and his significant other Diana Provencher of Stratham, NH, Paul Berube and his wife Rebecca of Haverhill; and his daughter, Lisa Gross and her husband Joel of CA; his grandchildren, Ashlie, Caitlyn and Aaron Berube, Jacqui, Ryan and Emily Gross; his great-grandchildren, Leo Fowler, Jemmy Wasson and Lilah Frost; his twin sister, Doris Richard of DE; his brother, Raymond Berube and his wife Patricia of Georgetown; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, many friends and former co-workers.

Sadly, in addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his granddaughter, Autumn Berube; his brother, Robert Berube and his wife Gail; his brother-in-law, Raymond Richard; and his very dear friend David Rodgerson.

Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody, on Saturday, March, 2, 2024 from 2PM to 4PM followed by a Funeral Service in the funeral home at 4PM. At the family’s request please OMIT flowers. Donations may be made in Donald’s memory to: The Bedford VA, CDCE # 135, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730, For 62C in Memory of Donald Berube.
