Obituary For Eileen M. Gallant
Eileen M. (Conway) Gallant, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died Thursday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Gallant Sr.
Eileen was born in Lynn MA on January 10, 1934, the daughter of the late Martin J. and Margaret (Veale) Conway and was raised in Peabody graduating from St. John’s High School in 1951.
She was first employed at New England Tel and Tel. Co. in the Accounting Dept. and later was a librarian at the Horace Mann School in Salem for twenty years prior to her retirement in 1994. Eileen and her husband Raymond had resided for 34 years in the Witchcraft Heights section of Salem and after the death of her husband she moved to Brooksby Village, Peabody in 2003 where she met many wonderful friends and enjoyed all their different activities, especially the Theatre on the Pond. She had been a member of the Division 18, A.O.H. Ladies auxiliary and also enjoyed working the polls in Salem during elections. After the loss of her son, Ray Ray Jr., she was involved in the Ray Gallant baseball tournament at Stephen Grady field at Forest River Park in Salem since 1989. Eileen also enjoyed playing many card games , traveling, sports and health activities.
She was the mother of the late Raymond J. Gallant Jr. and Kevin T. Gallant , the sister of the late Martin Conway, Ruth Moore and Ethel Harkins. She is survived by her nieces and nephews and many loving cousins.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 9:00 until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody at 11:00 AM. All attendees are required to wear a mask at church and will be optional but encouraged to be worn at the visitation. A private burial will be in the family lot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
