Obituary For Ellen Dawn Sweet

Ellen Dawn Sweet, 74, of Peabody, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She is the beloved wife of James M. Sweet with whom she spent 41 years of marriage.

She was born on May 27, 1949 in Lynn and was the cherished daughter of the late Donald and Myrtle (Call) Granger.

Ellen’s goal in life, from the time she was five years old, was to be a nurse. And she was a caring, smart, generous, and kind nurse for fifty years, loved by all who knew her. She was a naturally good person, always ready to lend a hand or offer guidance and support. She had a twinkle in her eye that sparkled with good natured fun and a little deviltry to keep things interesting – a rare gift from God.

In addition to her husband, Jim, Ellen is survived by her son, Brett Kelly and his wife Lori of Oregon City, OR; her daughters, Sharon Protano and her husband Christopher of Lancashire, England and Lauren Danahy and her husband Tom of Portland, OR; her 3 grandchildren, Matthew Collins and Ellen and Liam Danahy; her brother, Donald “Skip” Granger and his wife Ann of Swampscott; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sadly, in addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Brenda Carr.

Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 4PM to 7PM. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend her Funeral Service at St. Peter’s-San Pedro Episcopal Church, 24 St. Peter Street, Salem, MA on Saturday morning at 10AM. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ellen’s memory to St. Peter’s-San Pedro Episcopal Church Building Fund, 24 St. Peter Street Salem, MA 01970.

My heart. Ellen was the first person I met at St. Peter's, open heart, always a smile and a twinkle in her eyes! She was so welcoming (along with Jim) I kept going back. I will forever be grateful to Ms. Ellen and all of her positive energy all the time. I remember a cold rainy day last October, while standing outside at the bake fair, and I was just so in awe of Ellen and Jim, so I asked how they met....and boy, I was in for a long story!! Absolute love that carries on. You could see it in both their eyes, and I am sure Jim will carry that love struck look forever. Forever an angel, both on earth and beyond.
