Obituary For George E. King
Boxford – George E. King 72, beloved husband of Maureen E. (O’Hara) King, died Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Beverly Hospital.
Born in Winthrop, he was the son of the late George E. and Mary (Arnold) King. He was raised in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1969. He continued his education attending Boston College.
George was the owner of GTG Precision Machining, Inc. in Middleton, MA, a company he founded in 1978, where he served as president until the time of his retirement.
He was a longtime resident of Peabody prior to moving to Boxford. He was a member of the Ferncroft Country Club in Middleton for many years where he enjoyed many rounds of golf as a member of the 652’s group.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 49 years of marriage, he is survived by a son, Christopher E. King and his wife, Alyssa of Rowley, Jaclyn E. Goodridge and her husband, Benjamin of Amesbury, his four grandchildren, Caleigh Mae King, Rory Hamilton King, Colby George Goodridge and Conor King Goodridge, a brother John King of Lake Oswego, OR, a brother-in-law, Craig Filmore of Newburyport and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Julie Filmore and Thomas King.
George and his family enjoyed traveling abroad and at home. He was a good sport and would willingly follow along to see another castle in Ireland, another animal in Africa, another glacier in Alaska or another ruin in Mexico. But he would be most happy sitting poolside at one of the resorts in the Caribbean that he would take his family to in the winter. George also enjoyed many years wintering in Naples, Florida and summering at his family’s home on Long Lake in Maine. There he could relax, but at the same time could entertain his family and friends with fishing, archery, golfing, target practice, water skiing and boating. George and Maureen loved to go out to dinner and George could always be counted on to find just the right restaurant for the perfect dinner. He would host parties at his homes in Boxford, where he would sit at his bar, drink his Manhattan and share many laughs and good times with the people who would be lucky just to be in his company. There was nobody like George – he was one of a kind.
