Obituary For Gerald P. Dechayne

West Peabody - Gerald P. Dechayne (“Jerry”), 82, died peacefully on February 11, 2024. Born on June 1, 1941 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Peter and Monica (Urbon) Dechayne. Gerald meant the world to his family and his family meant the world to him. His kindness, humility, and grace made him a gentle and trusted confidant.

Gerald spent his formative years in Dorchester with his adoring three sisters. He received his degrees at Boston College and taught in the Boston school system for 36 years. He enjoyed watching Boston sports and was always reading the newspaper and sharing articles. He loved being outside, tending to his landscaping, keeping the driveway clear of snow, and maintaining the pool to be enjoyed each summer. Gerald will be remembered as a supportive listener, advisor, and problem solver. Gerald was the guy that people sought out at social gatherings to talk to because they knew they would be heard. He took great pride in his home and the life he built with his wife of 56 years.

Gerald’s legacy is carried on by his loving family: his beloved wife, Maryanne (Silva), his cherished daughters and their spouses, Lauren and Michael, Cheryl and Diron, and his three treasured granddaughters, Rachel, Nicole, and Alanna. He was their precious Papa. Gerald was the devoted brother of Janet, Marilyn, and Gail, brother-in-law to Bob and Marge and his late brothers-in-law Jim, Fred, and Ken. He was the good-humored Uncle to his nieces and nephews.

My name is Stanley Gryglik, I currently live in West Peabody. I lived in Dorchester MA, in the 1960's was a student of Mr Dechayne at Boston English High School about 1965 and at that time knew one of his sisters if I recall from OLC school in Dorchester So. Boston. I am 74 years old retired and sad to hear of his passing. He was a great young teacher at that time and student advocate.

My deepest condolences to Maryanne and family! You'll be missed. So many wonderful memories, hard to pick just one. I'd say the many 4th of July's our families shared. It's something I'll never forget. Parties in the yard then trekking at night to the fireworks! We can't bring those amazing times back but we sure can hold them close in our hearts. Much love, Gary & Lisa Lauze
