James O. Chalifour, 80, of Salem, died Thursday afternoon at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late James W and Jeannette (Brault) Chalifour.

He was a lifelong resident of Salem and a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1961. Upon his graduation he enlisted with the United States Marines Corps for six months and was a Reserve for six years.

He worked at Salem Hospital as a maintenance supervisor for many years before retiring years ago.

James is survived by his beloved three sisters, Estelle McOsker of Peabody, Frances Schrader of Salem and Lydia Ouellette of Salisbury and by many dear nieces and nephews.

James was predeceased by his siblings, June Call, Linda Wronkowski, Jeannette Mallard, and Demerise Toomey,

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM followed by his Funeral Service at 12:30 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
