Obituary For Jason Thomas Coughlin

Jason T. Coughlin of Peabody passed peacefully in his home on Saturday January 20, 2024, as a result of a recent industrial accident. He is the loving son of Retired Deputy Fire Chief James T. and Anna (Murphy) Coughlin of Peabody.

Jason was employed as a fire protection systems installer for Hampshire Fire Protection Systems Co. A graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, he also worked for many years at Holdens Service Station. An avid Boston sports fanatic, he especially enjoyed following the Patriots and Celtics. Jason loved playing basketball even through his illness.

In addition to his parents, Jason is survived by his sister Shanda Coughlin and her husband David Limongelo of Peabody, his brother Kevin and his wife Jen of Peabody, a nephew Patrick and nieces Parker and Cayleigh Coughlin and several aunts and uncles. He was a lifelong friend to many “South School buddies”.

Being an amputee Jason felt he could relate to our heroes and wished that expressions of sympathy be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at JDRF.org or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at T2T.org.

Initial services for Jason are private. A celebration of life will be held on his birthday in July.

My best friend since first grade is gone. So many memories together. We would hang out at my parents house on Cedar Grove in the backyard and here is Jason T Coughlin, pulling up with a newspaper in hand, because he had to read the sports lines! "The lines, the lines!". As kids, we would hang out until dark, then "Anna wants me home! I have to go!" By middle school, Jason grew to 6'4" so playing sports against him was tough. I would practice how to do side hook shots around him, which he would usually block, haha! Football? Just throw it high in the air to him, he would make that catch every time. Impossible to stop. I think we went on the Washington DC trip together. After high school, when many friends start to disappear, Jay was still my best, closest friend. It was me and him for my 21st bday party. Trip to Montreal with Sonia. We heckled the Montreal Canadian fans. Club Dome. The barn. My sister's wedding. Then when he got his career as a water sprinkler pipe fitter, man I was so proud of him. The pay and benefits were outstanding. I wish life played out differently for Jay. Bad things always happen to good people. Later in life we reconnected and hung out whenever possible. We went to Dropkick Murphys on St Patricks Day. I came up with the idea last minute, Jay was down for it! Just what day and how much money? PK's. Cruising in the stang. Checking out Beverly breweries. Good times! My kids got to meet Jay and really liked him. I will miss you buddy. Until we meet again. - Rob Lyons
