Obituary For Jayne M. Diehl

PEABODY - Jayne M. (Stankiewicz) Diehl passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA on December 28, 2023, at the age of 82. She was predeceased by Walter F. Diehl, Jr., her husband of 59 years, and Robyn L. Diehl, her daughter. Jayne is survived by her beloved children, Jeffrey Diehl of Norwood, and Kristen (and husband, Adam) Buckley of Peabody and her cherished grandchildren, Adam and Maximilian Diehl, and Cameron, Christian, Cailyn, and Kyra Buckley. She is also survived by her brother, William Stankiewicz, her sisters-in-law, Virginia Foster and Lynn Diehl, as well as several nephews and nieces.

Jayne was born to Walter and Lillian Stankiewicz in Norwich, CT on October 14, 1941. She was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy (1959) and Fisher College (1961) in Boston. After graduation, Jayne moved to New York City where she worked as a legal secretary. She met Walter while they were both living in the city and working at competing law firms and married him in 1964. Jayne left her job when Robyn was born to become a full-time mother. As the family grew, Jayne and Walter left New York and moved to Greenwich, CT where they resided for over 25 years. Jayne and Walter relocated to Ipswich, MA in 1999 to be closer to their daughters where they lived prior to moving to Brooksby Village in Peabody in 2017.

Jayne was a stay-at-home mother for over 20 years who loved raising their three children. She was an active volunteer with her children’s elementary school PTA, and a longtime member of the Greenwich Women’s Club where she also formed many close friendships. Jayne was an avid reader, and in recent years enjoyed playing Rummikub and socializing with her close group of friends at Brooksby.

Jayne and Walter traveled extensively over the years. They enjoyed many family vacations with their children and business trips with Walter’s company, as well as travel throughout Europe and North America in their retirement years. They also vacationed in Ogunquit, ME with their children and grandchildren for 23 consecutive summers, a source of joy for Jayne and a legacy her family looks forward to continuing. Jayne was especially grateful that she lived long enough to know and spend time with all her grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Brooksby Village Chapel, 100 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody on Saturday, January 6th at 1:00p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.
