Obituary For John Q Silva
Joao (John) Quadros Silva, 73 of Peabody, died Saturday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Linda (LeBoeuf) Silva, with whom he shared over 41 years of marriage.
Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Leonel Luz and Iduina (De Quadros) Silva. He was raised and educated in Portugal and later immigrated to the United States and has lived in Peabody for the past 55 years.
John was a laborer who worked in various capacities in the warehouse for many companies on the North Shore before retiring a few years ago.
John was very active in the Portuguese community and belonged to many organizations including the Portuguese American War Veterans Post 1 Club, Club Luis de Camoes, and Our Lady of Help Hall, all in Peabody. He also spent many years serving on the committee of the Banda Recreativa Portuguesa of Peabody in various roles. In his younger years, he loved to play soccer and was instrumental in getting local teams established. He was an avid music lover and took every opportunity to dance with any willing partner (especially his granddaughters). He loved to cook and was very well known for his tripe and especially his delicious octopus recipes. He was also a passionate supporter of his beloved Benfica Football Club and would often be seen representing the team with his favorite Benfica scarf. John worked hard at everything he did but was at his happiest when he was surrounded by his friends and family.
Besides his loving wife Linda, he is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Louis and Rebecca Silva and Jonathan Silva, all of Peabody, his daughter Kristina Silva and her partner Louis Goodwin of Amesbury, his three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lino and Lennice Silva, Manuel and Manuela Silva, and Joseph and Tara Silva, all of Peabody. His sisters and brothers-in-law, Odelta and David Bettencourt and Maria and David Mendonsa, all of Peabody, his beloved five grandchildren, Shannon, Erin, Chantel, Saleena, and Kassandra, and by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary LeBoeuf of Florida, Cheryl and Al Bettencourt of Peabody and Diane Delp of Peabody. He will also be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews, his friends and colleagues, and people he’s gotten to know along the way.
