Obituary For Joseph James Michallyszyn
Joseph James Michallyszyn, 86, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Brightview in Danvers surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Eugenia “Jean” (Redding) Michallyszyn with whom he shared 49 years of marriage until her passing in 2008.
He was born in Gloucester on March 19, 1937 and was the cherished son of the late Michael and Edna (Haun) Michallyszyn.
Joseph was educated in Peabody elementary schools and graduated from Essex Aggie Tech in Danvers before receiving an associated degree from Northshore Community College. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard for over 20 years. Joseph joined the Salem Police Department in 1964 and retired as a Captain in 1982.
Joseph enjoyed being with family, cooking and entertaining. His favorite event the family’s annual 3rd of July party. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife Jean to Aruba and loved fishing, boating, camping and flying his private plane from Beverly Airport. Joseph was a longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody for many years until he became ill. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Joseph is survived by his 2 sons, Kevin Michallyszyn of FL and Steven Michallyszyn and his wife Xiomara of FL; his daughter, Laurie Sahagian of Hamilton; his 6 grandchildren, Grant, Ryelan, Nicole, Katelyn, Xioly and Xiokel; his great grandchildren; Adrian, Jason and Zavier; his 2 sisters, Cathy Trainor and her husband George of Peabody and Lianne Feener of Tewksbury; his 2 brothers, John Michallyszyn and his wife Camina of Chelmsford and Frank Michallyszyn of Ipswich; his close friends, Greg Beamon and Julie Kiricoples and her son Matthew; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sadly, in addition to his parents and wife, Joseph was predeceased by his son-in-law, Neal Sahagian; his brother Randy Michallyszyn; and his brother-in-law, Frank Feener.
His funeral will be from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 9AM followed by a procession to St. John the Baptist Church for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in his honor at 10AM. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2PM to 5PM. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association by visiting www.alz.org.
