Obituary For Lawrence Francis Grant

Lawrence “Larry” Francis Grant, 81, of Middleton, formerly of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Salem Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Dolores “Dolly” (Dziadyk) Grant with whom he spent 60 years of marriage.

He was born on November 24, 1942 in Peabody and was the cherished son of the late John and Annie Matilda (Dugas) Grant.

Larry was a lifelong resident of Peabody until his move to Middleton in 2014. Following his 1961 graduation from high school, he worked at a local leather tannery. He then enlisted in the Army and spent two years stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge, he worked for the postal service and attended the police academy and eventually joined the Peabody Police Department where he worked until his 1993 retirement.

Larry enjoyed fishing in Maine with friends, golfing, daily walks with Dolly and weekly breakfast with the retired police officers. He loved the challenge of a good jigsaw puzzle and was extremely competitive with his family on finding the most pieces.

In addition to his wife, Dolly, Larry is survived by his daughter, Lisa Reed and her husband Walter of Peabody; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sadly, in addition to his parents he is predeceased by his siblings, Leo Grant and his wife Doris, Joe Grant and his wife Mary, Jack Grant, Mary Valerio and her husband Richard and Kathryn Renard.

Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 4PM to 7PM. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday morning at 11AM followed by his interment at St. Mary Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by visiting www.stjude.org or to the American Heart Association by visiting www.heart.org.

Condolences

  • January 25, 2024

Although I never knew this brave hero, I want to offer my prayers and condolences to the family and to his brothers and sisters in blue. I think all our officers are heroes especially what they must endure with today. So I'd like to end with a Psalm: "The wicked flee when no man pursueth, but the righteous are as bold as a lion." Thank you for your service. May you rest in peace.

Lisa and Grant family, I am so sorry to hear about your dad/husband, Mr. Grant was so pleasant and a joy to speak with when I saw him around the city. Both, he and my dad use to keep tabs on each other through me, and they both spoke about each other with love and respect. Hopefully they will find each other in heaven and catch up on old times. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

In my career there were very few you worked with who were not occasionally moody at best. Larry was always bright and cheerful and your day was better if you were working with him. Condolences to his family and all of his PPD family who were privileged to work beside him.
