Obituary For Lewis Schutt Overbaugh

Lewis Schutt Overbaugh, 89, of Peabody, MA passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2024 at the Alliance Health at Rosewood in Peabody surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Nadeau) Overbaugh with whom he spent 68 years of marriage.

He was born in Pittsfield, MA on May 23, 1934 and was the cherished son of the late Lewis and Helen (McGivern) Overbaugh.

Early in his life, Lewis served his country as a Specialist at Fort Dix, NJ. He created lifelong friendships as President of the Cy Tenney Club in Peabody as well as within his tightknit neighborhood. In addition to being a huge Celtics fan, he enjoyed attending his grandsons’ sporting events. He was mischievous and playful but always looked out for the underdog. Lewis’s health aides enjoyed his wit and he quickly became one of their favorites.

In addition to his wife, Rita, Lewis is survived by his daughter, Lisa Cann of Byfield, MA; his sons, Peter Overbaugh and his wife Donna of Lynn, MA and Thomas Overbaugh and his wife Huijing Wu of Charlestown, MA; his grandchildren, Peter Overbaugh, Nicholas Overbaugh and his wife Tyla, Gregory Cann and his wife Sarah, Brian Cann, and T.J., Travis, Elliot and Evelyn Overbaugh; his great-granddaughter, Rae Vienne Overbaugh; his brother, James Overbaugh and his wife Kim of Ballston Spa, NY; his sister Carole Jarvis of Buxton ME; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sadly, he was predeceased by his sisters, Ann Huggins, Marylou Jones, Elizabeth Harrington and Jeanne Overbaugh.

His funeral will be from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 9:30AM followed by a procession to St. Adelaide Church in Peabody for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in his honor at 10:30AM.
