Obituary For Lillian V. Murphy

Peabody - Lillian V (Jackson) (“Lal”) Murphy, 94, of South Peabody, died peacefully at home Wednesday, December 13, 2023 with her family at her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Leonard D. Murphy with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.

She was born in Peabody, MA on November 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Januskeivicz) Yaxter (Jackson) and graduated from Peabody High School and was trained as a hairdresser. In using those hairdressing skills, Lal made many meaningful and lasting friendships.

Lal’s family was the source of immense joy and pride and she loved all family members dearly. Lal especially loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren playing sports and shopping for gifts for those children. She was an avid baker and her baked goods were treasured by all at holiday gatherings and throughout the year. She and her husband liked to vacation in New Hampshire, Maine and Foxwoods in CT. In recent years, Lal was a fervent, daily fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and New England Patriots. She always enjoyed life, her family, and she loved to laugh and make other people laugh. Lal was a hard-working, caring and gentle soul with the unique ability to make everybody feel loved.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lorraine Murphy of Peabody and Rich and Barbara Murphy of Wrentham, a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and John Madore of Peabody, her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Madore of Peabody, Jennifer (Murphy) and her husband Ben Beichey of Chatham, New Jersey, and Kevin Murphy of Peabody, her great grandchildren Lillian and Harrison Beichey, her many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren, and sister-in-law Ernestine Jackson.

The entire Murphy family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the people from Beth Israel Lahey Health at Home Hospice who professionally and compassionately supported Lal and her family.

Condolences

  • December 15, 2023

Aunt Lillian was always a joy to be around. She was genuinely interested in what people had to say and compassionate when circumstances warranted. I have many fond memories of her and Uncle Leonard. Always happy, always smiling, she would light up a room when she entered it. I will miss her. May she rest in peace in the arms of the Lord. Her Loving Nephew, Paul R. Murphy
