Obituary For Louis Baglio, Jr.

Louis Baglio, Jr., 90, of Peabody, formerly of East Boston, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (Carlson) Baglio with whom he shared 52 years of marriage until her passing in 2017.

He was born in East Boston on May 6, 1933 and was the cherished son of the late Louis Baglio, Sr. and Lillian (DiPerri) Baglio.

Louie lived a family-filled early life as the youngest of six children in a large Italian family. At eighteen, Louie was drafted into the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he entered barbering school and went on to be the sole proprietor of the landmark Fort Hill Barbershop in Boston’s financial district, before retiring in 2003 after 50 years. A true city boy, he moved to Peabody after marrying Alice in 1965. A long-time parishioner of Saint Ann’s Church, he ushered Sunday Mass for over twenty-five years. For all who knew Louie, he was the happiest surrounded by family and friends at his dinner table, gardening, bowling and watching his beloved Boston sports teams, once being honored by the Boston Red Sox in Fenway Park for his charitable fundraising for the Jimmy Fund. His favorite endeavor though was spending time with his three grandchildren and sharing in all their activities.

Louis is survived by his 2 sons, David Baglio and John Baglio and his wife Deborah all of Peabody; his 3 grandchildren, Lily, Brooke and Lucas Baglio; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his brothers, Rocco, Charles and Jack Baglio; his sisters, Rose Giordano and Phyllis Marotta; as well as several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

His funeral will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 8:30AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30AM, in St. Ann’s Church, Lynn Street, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 4-8PM. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Louis’ memory to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Sylvan St Suite B-102 Danvers, MA 01923.

We are very sorry for your loss. Louis was a wonderful caring person who helped my family by using his skills as a barber for my dad who was bedridden . His wife Alice was a friend and workmate to me for many years The Baglio family should be very proud of their heritage. May Louis rest in peace. Barbara Kouroubacalis and Bob Pappalardo

Dear David and John: I was a customer , but more important a loving friend, of your dad for many, many years. We were both born in the spring of 1933 and usually talked near the time of our birthdays - most recently last year. He was a great man. How I will miss him. I send love to all his family. When I was a very new lawyer in Boston I walked into Louis' barbershop for a haircut for the first time. For the next 15 years, he was my barber. He loved his family and when he wasn't talking about them he was curious about mine. He had a great sense of humor and incredible memory. He helped teach me how to treat people. From the moment I sat in his chair until the moment he brushed the Clubman powder on my neck, he was a comedian, counselor, cheerleader and sage. Louis Baglio was a wonderful man and I always felt better about everything after spending that half-hour with him at his Fort Hill Barbershop. Rest in Peace my friend and my condolences to the Baglio Family. From, Ken DeMoura
