Obituary For Marie Ellen Scarnegie

Marie Ellen Scarnegie, 88, lifelong resident of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023 at the Abbott Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lynn surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 9, 1935 in Salem, MA and was the cherished daughter of the late Edward and Antoinette (Plante) Robinson.

Marie attended St. John School in Peabody and Essex Aggie in Danvers. At a young age she went to work, working many jobs. She started out at Salem Hospital as a teenager. Then worked at J.J. Newberry for many years and Farnsworth Nursing Home before her retirement. She also worked as a homemaker at Intercity. Marie was involved in many things but her favorite hobby was going to bingo. She was involved with the Peabody Parents of Special Needs where she fought for the rights of children with special needs for their education. After retirement she was very involved with the Torigian Senior Center in Peabody as a volunteer, the Peabody VFW and St. John’s Women Auxiliary. Marie loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Every holiday she looked forward to getting everyone together and celebrating. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Marie is survived by her son, Kevin Scarnegie of Lynn; her 3 daughters, Grace Conklin of LA, Lisa Griffin and her husband Thomas of Salem and Colleen Scarnegie of Fryeburg, ME; her 3 grandchildren, Michelle Clement and her husband James of LA, Kerri Rosado of Fryeburg, ME and Joshua Scarnegie of Salem; and her 10 great grandchildren.

Her funeral will be from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 9AM followed by a procession to St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody for her Funeral Mass at 10AM. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4PM to 7PM. Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marie’s memory to the Torigian Senior Center, 75R Central St. Peabody, MA 01960 or to the Alzheimer’s Association by visiting www.alz.org

    Mrs. Scarnegie was a beautiful woman who was kind and smiled to everyone she knew. When she was younger I would see her walking everywhere and she would stop and talk to me at the bus stop.     She was a great woman,when I first met her I was living at Fairweather apartment in peabody,I also met grayce at burger king.we kind of worked together there back in thee day.i met lisa through allison and bowling at metro Wednesday ladies night bowling.rest in piece marie Ellen scarnegie.marie was sweet and kind and very loveable by every one she came in contact with besides her family.
