Obituary For Minnie Louise Perkins
Minnie Louise Perkins transitioned to her eternal heavenly home early on November 25, 2023. Louise, as she was known to all, was born in Grates Cove, Newfoundland; the daughter of Jacob Wicks and Elizabeth Jane Benson. At the age of 3, her family moved to Wilmington, MA where she spent most of her early life. After graduating with the class of 1943, she was employed at Gilmour, Rothery Insurance Co. in Boston. In 1947, she married the love of her life Lloyd and they took up residence in Wakefield, MA and Reading MA where they raised 5 children; Wayne of Peabody, MA (Beverly); Vonnie (Jacquard) of Forestdale, MA, Douglas of Wilmington, DE (Pamela); Corinne (Hervieux) of Salisbury, MA (Paul); David of York, ME (Julie).
Even though Louise did not work outside the home, she was a dedicated homemaker who loved baking, sewing, entertaining family and friends, and also serving her local Old South Methodist church in Reading. She enjoyed spending time with her 9 grandchildren; Kristen, Stephanie, Jennifer, Lindsey, Luke, Caleb, Joel, Priscilla and Phoebe. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren; Alexa Rae, Emmy, Ellie, Gianna, Mia, Liam, Abby, Devon, David and Kenna.
After retiring, Louise and Lloyd resided in North Andover where she loved to swim and at the age of 57 took up the sport of tennis. Her family can recall her always being the last one out of the pool and off the tennis court. She enjoyed traveling up & down the east coast, trips to the Canadian Rockies, Germany, and the Holy Land. Her love of tennis continued when she moved to Punta Gorda, Florida where she also developed a large network of friends. Many applauded when she received outstanding recognition for her volunteerism at Port Charlotte hospital. Whether in Florida or New England, Louise was an avid Boston sports fan…which went back to her pre-marriage dates with Lloyd spent at Fenway Park and Boston Garden.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd; her siblings Ernest; Lydia; twins Leslie & Lloyd; twins Ralph & Hubert; Stanley; Ethel; Theodore; and Mary and also her son in law John “Jake” Jacquard. She is survived by sisters Vonnie (Welch) of Arundel, ME and Irene (Saunders) of Avon, IN and Wilmington, MA as well as 40+ loved nieces and nephews.
In her twilight years, Louise was diagnosed with the disease of dementia, which did not stop her from forming many friendships at her Brooksby Village memory care residence. You can believe that the “dash” between 1925 and 2023 was filled with a Christian life beyond belief. She prayed for all and reached out to many; always thinking of others over herself. She never had a bad word for anyone. Through her faith in Christ, Louise had peace with God and therefore, enjoyed the peace of God.
At a private service for the immediate family, Louise will be interred with her husband Lloyd at the Massachusetts National Cemetery on Cape Cod. A celebration of her amazing long life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers and in her memory, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association via their website: www.alz.org.
