Obituary For Moe Brodeur
Maureen J. (L’Italien) Brodeur, 76, of Peabody, and formerly of Salem, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday evening. Moe, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was the wife of Benoit J. “Ben” Brodeur with whom she shared 54 years of marriage and over 63 years as a couple.
Moe grew up in Salem and was the daughter of the late Laurien and Alice (Gagnon) L’Italien. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School, Class of ’66, where she was class president. Moe attended Bridgewater State College before beginning her professional career. From the late 70’s through the ‘90’s Moe was a corporate officer and owner of Colonial Carriage Company in Salem, while also working her fulltime job, first at Naumkeag Trust and then Century Bank. She then became the Section 8 Administrator promoted to Executive Director of the Salem Housing Authority.
Moe then joined her husband as he partnered in 1983 with Frank Cahill, becoming the Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home in Peabody. In 2000, they merged with the Conway Funeral Home becoming the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, where Moe was the office manager until her retirement in 2018. In addition, Moe was involved for many years with the Peabody Chamber of Commerce and was an early volunteer with the Peabody International Festival at its inception.
Moe’s greatest passion was the love of her Pharaoh Hounds; Ramesses, Luxor, Sultan, Titan and Royal. She and Ben travelled extensively with them throughout the United States and Canada where she made wonderful friends and acquaintances. Her other joy was entertaining family and friends at their pool in the summer.
In addition to her husband, Ben, she is survived by her twin sister Kathy L’Italien and her partner Bob Spychalski, as well as her sister-in-law, Fernande L’Italien both of Salem, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and her Gazehounds of New England Club (GONE) lure coursing family. She was predeceased by her brother Michael and sister Alice Ernsberger.
Funeral services for Moe will be private. If you wish to honor Moe, you may make a donation in her name to Citizens Inn, C/O Haven from Hunger, 81 Main Street, Peabody, MA 01960
