Obituary For Panagiotis M. Panagopoulos
Lynn – Panagiotis M. “Peter” Panagopoulos 92, beloved husband of the late Paraskevi "Voula" (Papazafiropoulos) Panagopoulos, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 1, 2024. Born and raised in Kalavrita, Greece, on August 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Miltiadis and Ekaterini (Stavroulopoulos) Panagopoulos. He emigrated to the United States in December of 1968, settling in Lynn where he had since resided with his loving wife Voula and their growing family.
As a young man, Mr. Panagopoulos learned his trade as a baker by working for his brother-in-law at Sabanty's bakery in West Lynn. He then began working at Dunkin Donuts in Swampscott for nearly a decade as an overnight baker making donuts by hand. More recently, he owned and operated his own coffee shops; J & M Cafeteria, Osmund Coffee Shop and Peter’s Coffee Shop, all in downtown Lynn, until the time of his retirement.
A longtime resident of the City of Lynn, he was a longstanding member of his beloved St. George Greek Orthodox Church. He and his wife Voula engrained the values and beliefs of their church amongst their entire family. Peter was a "handyman" who enjoyed working with tools as well as painting. You would often find him working on a project at his own home or one of his family member's homes. He also enjoyed working on his garden with his wife Voula and for many years would lovingly share homegrown vegetables with family and neighbors. In his last years he enjoyed breakfast at his local spots with his children and grandchildren as often as anyone was able to go with him throughout the week. He always welcomed a visit to Panera Bread for his favorite chocolate chip cookie or to Dunkin Donuts for a treat where he would often reminisce of his early days as a baker. He was a very loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. His family will sorely miss his infectious smile, positive energy and dancing at every holiday and family event.
Surviving him are his three daughters, Kathy Flessas and her husband, Peter, Jenny Kopoulos and her husband, William and Cindy Triantafillakos and her husband, Strati, and his son, Milton Panagopoulos all of Lynn, eight grandchildren, Paul Flessas and his wife, Colleen, Chrisoula Flessas Murphy and her husband, Brian, Georgia Flessas, John Kopoulos, Peter Kopoulos and his wife, Janine, Alexis Cole and her husband, Matthew, Katherine Coleman and her husband, Jason and Kosta Triantafillakos, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Theodora Pappas and Evgenia Panagopoulos.
