Obituary For Paul R. Hayward
Haverhill – Paul R. Hayward 83, beloved husband of the late Patricia A. (McCormick) Hayward who are now together again, died Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at his daughter’s home in Haverhill, surrounded by family.
Born in Malden, he was the son of the late William and Henrietta (Wojdakowski) Hayward and was raised and educated in Melrose.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States National Guard.
Mr. Hayward had been employed for many years by the MBTA in Boston having worked in many capacities including an MBTA police officer as well as an instructor. He also had great joy working for his son, Michael at Lynn Street Auto in Peabody. As a young man, he worked as a barber for twenty years.
A resident of Melrose prior to moving to Haverhill, he was a member of the Lions Club in Melrose and had a great devotion to his faith and Saint Padre Pio. Paul enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots on television with his son-in-law, John and spending time with his dog, “Oreo” who was a dedicated and longtime loving companion to Paul. He loved to dance and won many dance competitions. His favorite meals were American chop suey and speghetti and meatballs. He was also a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him are two daughters, Lori Bernidakis and her husband, John of Haverhill with whom he resided and Karen Mackenzie and her husband, Robert of Peabody, two sons, Paul Hayward of Topsfield and Michael Hayward and his wife, Karen of Peabody, five grandchildren, Colin, Cameron and Cali Mackenzie and Nicholas and Jason Bernidakis, a sister, Norma Mastrocola of Stoneham as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five siblings.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. followed by a service in the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St, Framingham, MA 01701.
