Obituary For Philip A. Mello

Peabody - Philip A. Mello, 70, of Peabody, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Salem Hospital, surrounded by his adoring family. He was the devoted husband of Marilyn (Hogan) Mello with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Anthony and Sophie (Rybicki) Mello. Mr. Mello was raised and educated in Peabody, and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1969.

Phil had worked as a machinist for many years, until the time of his retirement. In his youth, Phil spent many years on the softball and baseball fields playing games with lifelong friends. As years went by, he continued his hobby of reading and would often be seen outdoors on his back porch with a book in his hand. He also looked forward to daily visits from his neighbor and good friend, Jack. Phil was a gregarious man, best known for his quick-witted humor, baritone voice and friendly smile.

Philip’s family meant the world to him. He enjoyed conversations with all five of his kids on a daily basis. Phil was a caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children, Randy Mello and his wife, Marissa of Peabody, Pamela Duffy and her husband, Kenneth of Haverhill, David Mello of Peabody, Jennifer Maki and her husband, Jacob of Peabody, and Suzanne Mello of Peabody and her late spouse, Eric Bowler; his 12 grandchildren, Shea, Kaycie, Lexi, Sarah, Olivia, Teagan, Connor, Lucas, Drew, Van, Sean and Ryan. And many nieces and nephews along with dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Leonard, Robert, and Thomas Mello, and Roberta Wentzel.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held graveside, at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, 100R Cedar Grove Ave., Peabody, Friday, October 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Thursday, October 20th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. For directions and online guestbook please visit www.ccbfuneral.com.
