Obituary For Philip Famolare

Philip Famolare of Peabody passed away peacefully on October 28, 2021, in the loving care of his family and wonderful hospice nurses and Visiting Angels. He was predeceased last month by his beloved wife Antonetta “Netta” (Bruno), with whom he shared nearly 70 years of marriage.

Phil was born in Boston on July 13, 1930, son of the late Philip Famolare Sr. and Angelina (Santamaria) Famolare, and a cousin of the folk singer Buffy Sainte-Marie. Phil was a World War II/Korean War veteran who began his service with the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Netta waited faithfully for Phil’s return to her, saving every love letter, and they were married soon after, and blessed with a son, John.

Phil worked as a shipping manager and truck driver for many years. A natural at carpentry, building and repair, he was often found lending friends and family a hand with their home improvement projects. His most enjoyable hobby was restoring classic cars with his son.

Phil is survived by his son, John Famolare, his wife Diane of West Newbury, and their children and grandchildren; his wife’s sister Rose Mozzetta and her daughters Brenda Colangelo, Michelle Horrigan, and Jody Mozzetta; his wife’s sister Christine Salé and her son, Michael Salé; the daughter and sons of his wife’s beloved late sister Anna DeMatteo, Debbie Sacco, Eddie DeMatteo, and Stephen DeMatteo; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his brothers John, Charlie, and Joe, and his sister, Theresa.

The family is very grateful for the care both Phil and Netta received from the deeply compassionate medical and hospice care providers at Care Dimensions and their other caregivers from Visiting Angels and Associated Home Care.

There will be a graveside funeral service on Monday November 1, 2021, at 12 p.m. at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice Care via Www.caredimensions.org .
