Obituary For Robert J. Hayes
Robert J. Hayes, 79, of Peabody, formerly of Revere, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the beloved husband of Veronica (Frenette) Hayes with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Bob was born in Everett on January 26, 1944 and was the cherished son of the late John and Margaret (Carroll) Hayes. He was a wonderful family man as well as an avid reader, a golfer, and a fan of all things sports. He especially enjoyed watching his daughters and then his granddaughters compete and perform in their various activities. Graduating from Immaculate Conception in 1962, he went on to earn a Certificate in Drafting and Design from the Industrial Technical Schools in Boston. He started his career at Fay Spofford and retired 45 years later from Parson Brinkerhoff. Bob always gave freely of his time to help others. Whether as a little league coach to the Twins at St. Mary’s Church in Revere, a “Dad” to many children in the Drum Corps and Winter Color Guards that his daughters marched in, or as a devoted member to his AA group for 48 years, his dedication to volunteerism was just part of who he was. Bob would always warmly greet you with a smile, a wink, or the nod of his head. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his 2 daughters, Michele Balestrieri and her husband Dan of Billerica, and Amy Mahoney and her husband Bill of Wilmington; his 3 granddaughters, Alyssa, Lila and Natalie; his brother Joseph Hayes and his wife Judy of Lexington, South Carolina; and many loving nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 8:45 am to 10:15 am. An 11:00 Mass at Saint Maria Goretti Church in Lynnfield will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s memory to Tufts Medical Center, 800 Washington Street, Boston MA, 02111, Attn: Donation Development/Research Office or a charity of your choice.
