Obituary For Sandra Veloukas

Sandra (Latsios) Veloukas, 82, of Peabody, died Friday evening at her house surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Zisis Veloukas with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage.

Born in Eratyra Kozani, Greece, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Konstandonides) Latsios. She immigrated with her family to the United States at age 12 and has been a resident of Peabody for the past 70 years. She was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1959.

Sandra was the proprietor of Sandra’s Beauty Salon in Lynn and later ran her hairdressing business at her home in Peabody. After her children were grown, she went back to work alongside her husband at their family restaurants, Red’s Sandwich Shop in Salem, Lenny’s Sub Shop in Gloucester, and Maria’s Place in Salem before retiring years ago.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling to places like Aruba and the Bahamas. She also enjoyed her time going to Casino’s, playing golf, maintaining her lawn and flower gardens, dining out with friends and family, and gathering at her house with her amazing food. Sandra was the truest of friends to anyone who knew her.

Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her son Arthur Veloukas, her daughter, Elaine Veloukas and her longtime partner Christopher Adkerson, and by her grandson Alexander Veloukas, all of Salem. She was predeceased by her sister Lola Latsios.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, 5 Paleologos St, Peabody, MA 01960.

Sandy has been an inspiration to me since I first met her and Zisis in 1965. She is the epitome of a "woman of stature" who was distinguished, admired, and highly respected. She was a dear and trusted friend. Deepest sympathy to Zisis, Arthur, Eleni and family. May God rest her soul; and may her memory be eternal. Gale and George

You are finally released from that agonizing pain. You fought an incredible fight for years. Your strength was beyond words. I am looking forward to seeing you again. I LOVE YOU PRINCESS!
