Obituary For Theresa M. Carvalho
Theresa M. Carvalho of Peabody passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 after a difficult illness. She spent her last days surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Ventura Carvalho with whom she spent 53 years of marriage until his passing in 2014.
A resident of Peabody since 1961, she immigrated to the United States from Lisbon, Portugal, where she met and married her husband. In 2018 she moved to Medway, Massachusetts to be with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson.
She was a caring, deeply sympathetic and hardworking woman whose values and education were forged in life experience. As a young girl growing up on a farm, she learned to cultivate crops and livestock. She credited her maternal grandmother, Ana, for raising her and developing her exceptional talents for childcare, cooking and crochet.
With a seemingly endless abundance of energy, she maintained her home, prepared every family meal, served as landlady, and worked full-time. After she retired from GTE Sylvania in Salem, she could be found serving Portuguese bread and pastries to customers of Central Bakery in Peabody. She worked alongside her husband at the bakery and also for many years at the Duchess Shoe Company in Salem.
Theresa is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Mark Tagliaferro of Medway; her two sons, Ventura (Vinny) Carvalho of Peabody and Joaquim (Jack) Carvalho and his wife Kelly of Michigan; her three grandchildren, Nathan (Nate) Tagliaferro and his fiancé Briona Brito, Ashtyn Carvalho and her fiancé Nicholas Wawee, and Camryn Carvalho; her brother Antonio Pereira and his wife Maria Julia of Peabody; her dear sisters-in-law including Maria Fernanda Carvalho of Peabody and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sadly, in addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her beloved sister, Maria Elvira Branco.
Her funeral service will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11AM. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4PM to 7PM. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
