Obituary For Thomas M. Quigley Sr.

Peabody - Thomas M. Quigley Sr., 96, of Peabody, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on January 12, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Marion Rita (Ronan) Quigley with whom he spent 69 years of marriage until her passing in 2021.

Tom was born in New Bedford, MA on August 10, 1927, and was the son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Murphy) Quigley.

Tom grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1945. His father received his graduation diploma so he could enlist early in the US Navy during WWII. He was part of the occupying force in Japan. After discharge from the Navy, he followed in his father’s footsteps as a commercial fisherman until he met his future wife Mitz, the love of his life. He remained at the fish pier for many years working part time and at the same time joined Raymond Concrete and Pile full time taking test borings for large building projects around New England. To reduce his time away from home, he joined the post office where he retired as a supervisor after 20 years. Not one to sit very long, he decided to paint houses part time during his retirement.

Tom and Mitz raised their four children who they loved very much. They attended many dances at the Malden Irish American, where he would dazzle the crowd with his rubber legs dance. Tom loved being around people and if asked about hobbies would say “socializing”. Tom and Mitz treated anyone who visited their home like part of their family, and everyone looked forward to spending time with them.

Thomas is survived by his four children: Thomas Quigley and his wife, Debra of Braintree, MA, Maureen Hartley of Stratham, NH, James Quigley and his wife, Candace of Reading, MA, Mark Quigley and his wife, Elizabeth of Plaistow, NH; his ten grandchildren: Jennifer Hartley, Daniel Hartley and his wife, Alissa, Julie Wall and her husband, Timothy, Kathleen Quigley, Sean Quigley and his fiancé, Laura Howd, Elizabeth Marie Quigley and her significant other, Tucker Berube, Mary Quigley and her significant other, Louis Roberts, Melissa Blackshaw and her husband, Martin, Christopher Quigley and his fiancé, Channa Carroll, and Michael Quigley; his eight great-grandchildren: Cooper Hartley, Caroline, Abby and Ava Wall, Jaxson and Gianna Hartley, Knox Baldwin and Trevor Berube; his sister, Patricia Ferrick and her husband, James of Kennebunk, ME; his sister-in-law, Ronaine Quigley of Somerville; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sadly, in addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, William Quigley and his wife, Alice, John Quigley, Joseph Quigley and his wife, Shirley, and Nancy LaPlante.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. followed by a procession to St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Peabody.
