Obituary For William Lopes Santos
William “Bill” Lopes Santos, 80, of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Sandra (LaPointe) Santos with whom he shared over 59 years of marriage.
He was born in Murganheira, Portugal on December 19, 1942 and was the cherished son of the late Felix and Silvina (Ferreira) Santos. He came to the United States at the age of 9.
He was a graduate of Peabody High School and immediately joined the United States Navy upon graduation. He proudly served in the Navy for over 20 years, working on the aircraft carriers USS Wasp, USS Lexington and USS John F. Kennedy.
He always worked two jobs to support his family. He was a mechanic and he worked for 33 years at the Peabody Electric Light Company. Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed several winters in Florida.
William was a member of the Portuguese American War Vets Post where he enjoyed weekly lunches with his brother and friends. He was also a member of the CLC in Peabody. He loved going for his walks whether it was to the store for his newspaper or to have coffee with his friends at the Post or the CLC. He was always there to help his family and friends with anything they needed. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother and will be missed by many.
In addition to his wife, Sandra, Bill is survived by his son, Bill Santos and his wife Heather of Groveland; his daughter, Patti Santos of Peabody; his grandchildren, Christopher Kenny, Michelle Kenny and her fiancé Billy Machia, Tyler Flynn, Cameron Santos and Logan Santos; his great granddaughter, Rylee Machia; his sisters, Clarinda Donle of NH, Gracinda Santos of N. Reading and Maria Gagne and her husband Greg of NH; his brother, Tony Santos and his wife Michele of Beverly; his former son-in-law, Steve Kenny of NH; his sister-in-law, Lorraine Altobello; his aunts, Sussena Nadeau and Lenore Santos; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sadly, in addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Leanne Bernaby; and his brother-in-law Bruce Donle.
Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 4PM to 7PM. His Funeral Service will be on Tuesday morning at 10AM in the funeral home followed by his interment at St. Mary Cemetery in Salem, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory for pancreatic cancer research to the American Cancer Society by visiting www.cancer.org or to Care Dimensions by visiting www.caredimensions.org.
